The above link has the exact ports that MUST be open.

This isnt the first time that i am logging in. I am able to connect by the usual means of downloading the PWC file. |

to clarify some things:
worldgate does _not_ need any special ports open, it uses the same port (80) and protocol (http) as your webbrowser, at least in the configuration used here.
as well you don't need special versions of .net, the version installed by nwn2 (2.0) is fully sufficient. i have not tested with 3.0, but this should not cause any problems.
i tried downloading your pwc today, but could not re-create the errors you are reporting, so this is rather hard to debug. to investigate further i need to know what makes your system "special", so please provide the following information:
- OS version (xp? vista?)
- OS flavour (home, pro, business, ultimate, ...)
- userlevel (running with administrative rights?)
- .NET version (usually 2.0, but may be 3.0 also)
- network-connection (using router or modem? bandwidth?)
- any "special" software, like virus/spyware/trojan/malware scanner, personal firewall, webwasher, anon proxy, download accelerators, ...
additionally i'd like to know when exactly the problem shows, and what download-rates you see at that moment.
btw:
during my tests i noticed that i downloads from your webserver saturated at a maximum of about 3600 kbit/s (400 kb/s). this should not cause problems, though, but usually worldgate peaks at linespeed maximum.
any comments or findings you may send via email to tanita(at)weltentor.game-host.org . |

Jolin and Trippotonia, please answer these questions for Tanita. Tanita is the author of the World Gate program and would be our greatest resource in hopes of resolving this.
Tanita, thanks so much for coming and offering your help. This is above and beyond excellent customer support. Please let us know if there is any way we can repay you. |

ok, thanks for your input.
at that moment you can't check your download rates as there are no significant amounts of data transfered right then...
it seems that you have a basic problem using http from worldgate, and as you are running vista (even with full admin rights) my best guess is that vista's personal firewall drops the connection, maybe to ask you whether this programm is allowed to send and retrieve data to and from the internet.
please check: are there any firewall-questions popping up when you click "from url" and enter the url? they _may_ even be hidden under some of worldgate's windows... or even worse: maybe vista firewall asked you once and you clicked "no" accidentally, and now vista will not let worldgate connect to the internet. maybe it's something completely different, but let's first rule this one out, ok?
i'll try to lay hand on some vista-system and do some little experimenting, as i have no experience on using vista atm... |

hmm, having some hardware problems here, so it'll take some more days until i can test what's happening on a vista machine...
maybe in the meantime you could try whether you can download from another pw? just to see if your pc or DEX's webserver is the culprit! |

Thats a good idea, would also support or nulify the client ISP theory.
I was also thinking of setting up an Audolo site and ask Jolin to try downloading form there, just to see if the same error occurs. One other person reported the error at the IGN Audolo thread. Xaltos had a suggestion I'll try as well if I can figure out how to. |

I'm having trouble. I follow the directions and it never allows me to test and exit. All I get is this feature is disabled till obsidian fixes it. |

Can you give some more detail?
Specifically, when you did Step 4 (entered the URL www.dungeoneternal.com), did the "WorldGateHost" field get filled in automatically?
If so, then on Step 5 when you clicked on "Test & Exit", you didn't get the error, but on the next step, "Configuration Completed", you clicked on "check and connect".
Clicking on "check and connect" will result in the error message: "this feature is disabled till obsidian fixes it"
Which means that the direct connect feature is not currenlty supported.
Please try clicking on "check for new files" instead, and you might receive all of the files. In fact, I'd think you'd still begin downloading all the files automaticlaly, despite receiving that error message. |
