time out and worldgate

i used worldgate yesterday and i used it few min ago, i hope i wont have to download 360megs each time......

i logged few minutes ago, i created a char, yes, i go pretty fast because i know what i want, and the server timed me out.... mmm... i'll try again

since i am here (i didnt find my prior post) i would tell you that it is silly to have 50 players max since the server is a dual pentium with only 2 or 3 gig, get a real server to be able to have 50 players, no offense but information...

i relogged and created faster, that was ok but it would be better to doublecheck if normal time of creation is inside timeout delay...

server went offline
i give you what i know if it is related and if that can help
i was in convo with half-orc crafting, other player went to initiate convo with noddy and boom

You should post in NWN2 area, this is for games not specifically NWN, we have NWN, NWN2 and quite a few folks that like other things.

And be nice to us folks here, and try to assume we know what we are doing.

The system is a server, and being a server does not mean it's the most expensive system out there, but it's got hardware in it that makes it work well for what it does, and it does not have a lot of junk that it does not need. I'll add memory or look at it when it actually has trouble doing the job it does, but it's really a well built machine. As a server it has logs and such that can tell me what i should do, but nothing as of yet in that area is going to help things. Most of the issues really trace back to NWN2 and how it handles things, and my focus is as it should be, on the real identified problems.

Worldgate will only download all those megs the first time, the 350 megs was the PWC ( you only download a portion of that as it uses 7zip compression ), and the hak's are about the same size, we try to keep them small and will probably max out at about a gig. Other worlds are already up to 3.5 gigs. But as i add new things, you'll have to redownload the new version of files that i've changed. You should run worldgate on a daily basis the first time you play each day, and it will only download things that have changed -- so if i have 500 things in that hak and change 1 2da file in it, you just download that 2da file. And if you get corrupt portions of your hak file, it will fix it as well. This lets me make sure things are syncd properly at all times to all the clients and they just have to click a button.

Anyway, hope you have fun playing, we've got a lot of cool areas for you to explore, and of course the best is yet to come. After you get to know things better i'm sure you'll have quite a few constructive comments, but it might take a while to see the reasons why we've done many things.

you build something and a joeknowsall comes and gives you destructive comments....

you dont have absolute knowledge, my comment are constructive, i force myself to tell you those comments, you have the choice, you stay in your tower and find my comments destructive or you put aside that negative feelings and you ask me some questions... it is my way to learn... i think we can learn faster if there are no hard feelings or destructive comments.

i am french canadian so my english isnt very good but i have absolutly nothing destructive to say... so... what do you say?

A good word of advice is never to take anything said personally, especially on a forum.

Pain wants to help the players and Juliam wants to say how he thinks the server can run better.

Wow, isn't it nice when communication works...(sometimes to overlook overstated comments helps) Very Happy

i wont use refresh anymore

i noticed that many pws use similar names for haks and that could become a problem and crash servers... so i posted about a possible convention PWs could use to avoid problems...

then i talk to Gossip to find out about quest, i did the goblins so easily and the challenging (i'm lvl5) boss killed me in 3 hits, i wasnt able to hit once hehe, so.. i guess that i will have to wait to be in party before returning there...

and yes, Pain knows me, i never destruct and my knowledge of fine-tuning scripts for npcs, action, spawning, logging, cleaning, looting or heartbeat is very deep, i can feel the micro-seconde the script launches a function when i play... i cant explain it, i feel it

JuliaM, it's not that i don't hear you, it's that you are still looking at the trees and i am looking at the overall forest. Since i am inside the network i see the issues different and i agree there are symptoms you see, but the diagnosis you give is based on assumptions and one perspective. You see server going down, i see a mass disconnect and my internet going down. Now i agree if i was running Vista or XP i'd need more memory, but right now the server has a gig of memory free, very fast hard drives, and is not near to tilting on the cpu. If you look at this you will notice 2 gigs is fine, http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Starting_a_PW#Hardware_Requirements.

Since i can see the server, i know how much memory it's using, and how much CPU, and i can review this at my leisure. I also see other things that are bigger issues, which is the bandwidth, and i have logs showing me when folks get disconnected. Since i am on the same network, and i don't have any issues when all the players disconnect, it makes me focus on the router.

So i finally got a new router last night, which is what was dying on you, either because it was bad, or because a single game client is shooting past 10k a second like they should and completely taking over the pipe with infinite bandwidth. It has traffic shaping which over time should allow me to control some of the bugs so one client does not mess everyone else. But it's going to take me a bit to tune it. And it has logs that track lost packets, and explains where those lost packets go, which are also helping me understand what i need to do to make things better.

Dammmm... I usually just click on enemy, close my eyes, hit random buttons and hope he will die first. Function? never felt anything like that during playing...:p
