Twice now I've added damage bonus to my mage staff in DEX1 - paid for part of it and then also used a damage stone - and both times after logging in the next time - it was stripped from the item. I double checked the item rules and this was not in violation of the rules. Why does it keep getting removed from the staff? Now I'm out about 115k in gold and 2 damage stones and no damage bonus to show for it...

Here were the stats before:

1) Light - white 20m
2) Enhancement +5
3) Vampiric Regen +1
4) Extra Spell Slot - Sorcerer Level 8

I first paid to add 1d10 Electrical damage and then used a Electrical Damage Stone to raise it to 2d6. It went through fine. Next time I logged into the server - just the Electrical damage had been removed.

Then I went and added 1d6 Cold damage and used a Cold Damage Stone to raise it to 2d4 (I only had enough funding for 1d6). Again, it went through just fine. I logged in today and now that is gone too. Just the Cold damage.

What is the issue?

Well, looks like it's getting stripped.

If I was sarcastic I would say that the problem is that you're adding damage to a mage staff.. but I'm not sarcastic.. so I won't say that..

It's within the rules.. I'd say it's something to do with it being a mage staff.. the script doesnt recognise it or something?

It's the regen. I don't think you can craft vampiric regen on a mage staff.

What's the special purpose of a mage staff then? As opposed to a regular quarterstaff. What's the benefit of having a mage staff and why is it sold separately? Are there special properties a mage staff can have that a regular staff can't?

Yeah, because quarterstaff is two handed and uh..mages shouldn't be trying to hit things. That's probably the main reason.

Guys - got your point about the mage fighting. The build I was going for was more of a mage fighter (staff in one hand sword in the other, a little like Gandalf, I know). Thought it would be cool to play the character that way. But thank you for replying!
