NWN2 :: Retrieve DEX PWC via World Gate Client

In order to play on DEX2, our players have had to download a large PWC.7z file, possibly install new software in order to de-compress it, and then manually put it in the correct location within their directory. They'd have to download a whole new ~260 MB PWC file roughly every four weeks (granted, compressed with 7z, probably about 35% size). Its not too bad, though we have had substantial problems with players new to NWN2 figuring out exactly where to put the pwc file.

The next DEX PWC release will be administered via World Gate. World Gate Client will automatically review all of the component files of the players' pwc file, determine which are missing or have changed, then automatically download missing files and overwrite files which have been updated. It will potentially also place new needed files within their correct directories, and clean up any discontinued subcomponent files within the PWC.

We will only be using it to place files within your (MyDocs)/NWN2/ directories, and we will not put anything into your override folders. This means that the installation of the DEX pwc and any future related files is safe (will not cause any problems during future NWN2 patches), and will not cause problems for players who play on multiple NWN2 online servers (some NWN2 servers are loading files into players' override folder, which causes problems in both of those regards).

How will this affect players?

You will need to install World Gate Client.
Its total installed size is ~ 1.4 MB.
We've provided very user friendly installation instructions below.

You will need to learn how to use World Gate Client.
Its actually a very simple process, requiring that you open WGC, type in www.dungeoneternal.com (the first time only), and then pressing one button. From there, its all automatic.

Some of the benefits:
Instead of having to download the entire PWC file every four weeks, players will only need to retrieve a fraction of it (any new maps, or updated maps) cutting your download time into a mere fraction of what it used to be. Players who already have the PWC installed
will realize this benefit the first time they use World Gate Client. This makes updates much less of a hassle for both players and Administrators, even to the point that making pwc updates is no longer prohibitory and could be done much more regularly.

Any files downloaded via World Gate Client will automatically be placed in the correct directories, so we should see a lot less problems with new players trying to figure out how to play on DEX2.

WorldGateClient Installation Instructions:

Download WorldGateClient.msi by clicking on this link:

Save this file onto your desktop (its only temporary).

This file, WorldGateClient.msi is the installer for clients (players). Open this file by either double-clicking on it, or right-click-select Install. This will take you through an install wizard.

By default, it will attempt to create a new folder and install files within C:/Program Files/WorldGate/ . I recommend you simply click OK, then Install so that files are installed per the default.

Files installed will include:
WorldGateClient.exe
OEIShared.dll
edtFTPnet.dll
and an empty folder titled “WorldGate”

It will also create a shortcut on the desktop. Its most convenient to put this shortcut right next to your NWN2 shortcut.

You are now finished with the installation of WorldGateClient. You may now delete the WorldGateClient.msi file.

Using WorldGateClient :

Run the WorldGateClient.exe by double-clicking on the new shortcut.

Click on new

Click on from URL

Within this resulting window, type in www.dungeoneternal.com and enter.

This will automatically configure your WorldGateClient with the information it needs in order to retrieve the DEX files. After that information shows up in the fields (as seen on the screenshot), then click on test and exit

Now you will be back to your GCW main window. Click on check for new files

After the process is complete, you are ready to play!

From now on, anytime you are unable to log into DEX, simply run World Gate Client, and check for updates. Or you could get into the habit of checking for pwc upgrades just prior to each time you play DEX2. It’s a simple one click process.

Well instalation of world gate is easy enuf and futher updates will be much faster and easier for new players. IMO great move with WG.
