It's actually better than it was, but i've got more work to do as there are and were multiple causes of this lag. ( there is a thread discussing the new router ).
Lagginess can come from a number of sources, both player and my cable connection are my main focus right now. Issue with my cable seems to involve a mass drop of all players, happens about 2 times a day or so. Between these drops it seems like there is not other issues with the overall connection.
Now if there is one player with overrides, or out of date 2da's, then EVERYONE gets lag. So double check those that are on and make sure they are cooperating. Lot of times folks assume it's "not a big deal" and just focus on if they can log in.
I've got the issues with the router resolved, and i also got the actual server very rock solid. |

OK, thanks for your reply, pain. I too noticed we got a lot of new players, I'll do my best to tell them to update their haks and overrides. |

any 2da can cause it, the server works based it's 2da's and the client does the same thing in paralell, but they server double checks everything every few seconds. So if your pwc is messed up, you can run thru a wall, but the server notices about 6 seconds later, and moves you back to a "legal" posistion. The same thing is happening to the sounds you hear, the spells you can cast.
To run fast the files, especially walkmeshes and 2da's have to be exactly the same. If they are not the game will keep going in 2 directions and constantly reset itself to the server version, ergo lots and lots of lag. This burst of activity will make those with good 2da's and the like not get their packets thru. Suddenly the same thing is happening from both the causing player and the good players as it erupts into what is called a packet storm.
This means don't use custom UI's, 2da's or rename our pwc or hak files. ( UI's changed in 1.11 and in each version can change the scripts a bit, they are not a main cause, but having the scripts inside them, or the fields available wrong, will cause havoc as well-you have to redo them each patch. ) |

Just want to point out that yesterday the server was unstable with folks getting kicked off repeatedly.
Today the server is much more stable.
I did a worldgate last night, and i think everyone who is on has run it. There seems to have been some lag, but that went away after a player was convinced to run worldgate. I am fairly certain that some of the issues are my cable, but i think that a good portion are players who have overrides, or who fail to run worldgate religiously.
Please run world gate prior to playing each and every day, it's very important, and it will fix any issues that come up.
If you want to check out a player to see if they ran the worldgate program, give them a map and ask them to view it, if it does not work for them you know they did not run the update. ( I handed out maps last night, with directions for folks to share them, the maps are not accurate yet, but preview the new areas and layout i am working on ) |

I thought one of the recent updates from bugsidian was supposed to allow you to force the server to look at its own override folder instead of the players to eliminate this problem. |

No, that is the big one we've been lobbying for, for a very long time. They do have it in their todo list but all the roleplay folks are more concerned about "sitting" and and single player folks want their issues dealt with. This is a major reason why we have always had issues, but it's something that the players really can help with until bugsidian gets around to it. |

Regarding soudset.2da, it'd be a good idea to find the best one available and throw it into the hak on server and WG client site. |

I turn my sound off generally, which is the best one?
Not sure what is changed, or why it's different to make a "best one", but if folks out there have one they like i can add it in, or link to it from the vault. I'm going to take over managing the custom UI's as well, since pvp needs smaller UI's, and upgrade them with each version.
Basically if anyone wants something like from the vault, and it's not a big expense in megabytes or overhead i can look at integrating it into dex. And it's better that i do it since i can manage it, and make sure nothing is going on that can cause issues, and everyone can have an equal footing as well. |

Best one would probably be one that opens up every single voice available in NWN2 / MOTB
There are several on the vault, probably some duplicates, and some slight variations.
Good thing is the row numbers probably haven't been altered on any of them, so that players who've already used their own soundset.2da while configuring their new characters won't lose the voice (or get different voice) for their existing chars.
And hence likely can update to a newer soundset.2da after next exapansion (that would add all of the new voice packs that come with expansion) and same should hold true.
I'll upload the one I use, I think it has everything, but if not, at least its a starting point.

Thanks, i'll get that into the next update.
If any players who are using this feature can post, and test it out. If they have an issue i can merge theirs with this one. |

Heh...I'm with u Pain - I run music off another comp and have the headphones on the bench so I can barely here the sounds from nwn2...
For UI's - Charlie's has struck me as being the best one around. Everything is smaller significantly and the option of having a big hotbar that still has the numbers and scrolling ability is fantastic. |
