NWN1 After Driver Update

I updated my video driver, and now nwn doesn't work right. When I click to play, the screen turns black and all i get is the nwn mouse. I can hear the mouse scroll over tabs (that chime sound) but I can't see it! I can Alt-F4, and click blindly to exit to desktop, but I see nothing.

What do I do????

might want to revert back to your last driver and see if its an issue that gets resolved in a later update

i got this happening with my 8800GTS video card you need to revert back to old drivers, and if you cant your stuck with poop performance and black screen on load up,

the way you can bypass the black screen is starting nwn via the toolset
you load a test module and start nwn from there.

that the main reason why i dont play nwn1 anymore my video card doesnt work right with it. Peoples that have lastest generation geforce 8 cant use old drivers.

gg nvidia or bioware.

Tried, and failed. Don't ask me why, cuz I don't know. i tried an older driver version, didn't work. Now i'm with this new driver version again.

nwn2 runs very nice too with it. That work around works rusty, thx, but i'll need to figure out how to run the dm client now.

edit: I figured out how i'm going to get into the dm client

Basically I have to click blindly. I just have to memorize the exact place where to click, maybe sticky tape some spots or edge of monitor. Once I get to the Gamespy server listings, I can see everything again.

I also discovered this is a major problem in NWN.

That explains why there's close to 5000 new posts. I got a new computer, there's another one. I would try NWN2, but I hear it sucks big monkey dong.

Tom you can also try to alt tab to fix the black screen issue.

uninstall hardware through control panel and revert back to your default card if it is still in your box
then reinstall your original drivers enable your pimp card and restart

I've have to do this like every 3 or 4 months....

alt-tab actually doesn't work with the black screen, nor alt-ctrl-del. Only windows start button does.

I don't have the original drivers, its on some disk thats disappeared from exsistence.

I think i can get used to clicking a black screen.

try Alt-Enter to run in windowed mode.

You should be able to rollback drivers through the properties of the adapter in the windows device manager. Either that or see what version you have now and go back .1 e.g. If you have 4.3 right now use a search engine for "(Graphics adapter you have) 4.2 driver". Oh, if you install a driver, you need to go into the remove software properties and uninstall the driver manually then install the newer, or older if your case, driver. It's always recommended to do this and reboot your computer after you uninstall the driver so the settings will take effect.

Look, i've been trying to troubleshoot installing the video driver in the first place, getting help from ocforums.com. Apparently the drivers i had were something windows downloaded for me. i couldn't uninstall them (i could go into details), so i was advised to just install the new one.

installed new one, then uninstalled it, then installed older version (but still newer than what i had to begin with), then uninstalled that, then installed the new one again.

I see that i should have probably rolled back instead of uninstalling the first time. i'm going to just manage with what i got now, wait for a corrected driver update. Apparently Bioware has notified Nvidia of the problem.
