I've been told DR on items doesn't work even though it looks like it does in combat log. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'd like to know if I need DR for my characters, if it's useless I don't want to bother.

Its true, physical damage reduction crafted onto armor isn't working through 1.06.980. The log shows damaged absorbed, however, if you track the damage and HP, you'll find nothing is being absorbed.
