As we are just now launching World Gate for teh first time, I anticipate we will have some problems, especially related to firewall, route, and anti-virus configurations. Anyone who is unable to update their PWC via WorldGate, please post here, including the error message you receive.
Thanks. |

Player login Trippatonia was unable to configure WGC window by using the "from URL" method.
He received error message:
"the underlying connection was lost."
We tried configuring it manually, but he still received the same message. Carpot, can you help me hunt for info on this one?
During that same time, I was able to retrieve files, so it seems specific to his system.
We'll post the solution here when we come up with one. |

Trippatonia, are you using a proxy? If so, please try temporarily disabling it while you run World Gate. Let me know if this helps, thanks. |

I am not using a proxy. I have tried disabling windows firewall and enabling FTP in lan adapter settings and port forwarding of port 21 but non of the above worked. |

ok, so we've tried:
temporarily disabling your AVG antivirus,
verified no proxy is being used,
temporarily disabled firewall,
is that Windows firewall,
or the firewall of your router,
or software firewall?
Just asking as some systems use all 3, though seems you're pretty familiar with your system setup and probably thought of that.
Perhaps could try opening port 80 (probably already open), or even temporarily opening all ports in conjunction with verifying firewalls and antivirus disabled (though don't leave it that way long).
We're looking for additional sources of info on this. The author of World Gate had guessed it may have been a proxy issue, maybe will have other ideas...
edit:
I just verified the only ports I have open are 21, 23, and 80, yet am still able to retrieve files using WGC from the host. Maybe just those ports will be good enough. |

Sorry to ask you this once again, but could you please write the entire error message exactly as it appears here? I did a search on "underlying connection closed", and got over 1 million hits. Can reduce this result if I get more specific with the wording that follows.
Also, please let me know whether you have .Net Framework (from Microsoft) installed. You already own this version, if you use the toolset. |

.Net Framework is installed
The error message is "couldn't finish reading from web: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive."
Did you open both TCP and UDP for 21 23 and 80? |

By proxy, we're not referring to the proxy server we use for surfing the web right? i am not entirely clear what is meant by proxy but i did not set up any proxy server by myself. |

Yeah, I meant routing through a proxy server to be able to surf anonymously. Not sure of all the ways this can be done, though it seems perhaps configuring it through your browser may affect the configuration of some other mechanisms.
Most of the articles I am reviewing are pointing towards files related to Microsoft .Net Framework.
What version do you have installed? Your exe will likely be in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework
I am running 2.0.50727.42
I just checked all of the related configurable .cs files and they seem unaltered (have dates of 9/23/2005).
We could try updating (or using older version) of Framework, or might simply try swapping in some of my .cs files.
Though I wish I had a better understanding and could offer some logic as to what exactly is happening, the stuff is a little too deep for me to understand without pouring a lot of hours into studying it. A lot of authors are really elaborate about coding they've implemented in order to fix this problem, but it may as well be in a foreign language. |

Here is the most comprehensive article I can find on the subject error message thus far:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;915599
Their first suggested solution is insuring you have the latest .net Framewaork installed; I think that might even come on the NWN2 DVD. Hopefully the solution will be that simple.
They have several other recommended countermeasures (for this particular error message, type 3), though they seem to be more server related (it could be that your ISP is using some kind of proxy configuration). Maybe someone with C programming experience can partially translate this stuff. Resolutions A, D, E, F, and O.
also could double check the configuration of the browser proxy settings.
Here is another link which may contain a viable solution:

Yeah I am pretty lost when I start reading that stuff too. It seems there are two methods, VB or C#
If you've already checked proxy settings of your browser and haven't found anything there, then its probably your ISP using some sort of proxy routing or due to some configuration of their .net framework files (in fact I think most of the solutions in that post are intended for server hosts, not necessarily clients).
I'll look around some more. |

Trip, I do not recognize your name therefore I am assuming that this is the first time that you are logging in.
The above link has the exact ports that MUST be open. |
